For me this is a real treat! I love guava paste. Here in the Dominican Republic guava paste is usually pair with fresh cheese or cream cheese and is use for several traditional desserts, like today’s recipe.
The origins of this recipe is uncertain but some say that this is the Dominican version of a Lebanese dessert. Traditionally this is a buttery dough like sugar cookies filled with guava paste, but nowadays you can find different fillings.
Deditos de novia
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup butter 2 sticks
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 guava paste 12 onz
- 1 cup of icing sugar
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Mix the flour and salt with the baking powder. Add the butter in small cubes to the flour and work the butter into the flour with the help of a fork. Then add the egg, vainilla and milk, mix until well combined. Form balls, then rolled them into cylinders and flatten into squares, place a piece of the guava paste at one end of the squares and then roll and envelope the guava paste with the dough.
- Bake in a 325 F oven for 18 -20 minutes until firm. Do not overcook. Take them out of the oven and let them cool on a rack, while they are still warm rolled the on icing sugar. Then let them totally cool down and enjoy!
Love these at any moment of the day really, they make great homemade gift, it is easy to make and delicious to taste, people will be really grateful when getting these! 🙂

En la República Dominica, la pasta de guayaba es muy apreciada en la panadería, la forma más popular de encontrarla, es combinada con queso crema fresco o con cream cheese.
El origen de esta receta es desconocido, muchos dicen que esta es la versión dominicana de un postre libanes. Tradicionalmente es una masa que se deshace en la boca rellena de pasta de guayaba, hoy en día se puede encontrar otros rellenos.
Deditos de novia
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 tazas de harina
- 1 cucharadita de polvo para hornear
- 1 taza de mantequilla 2 barritas
- 1 huevo
- 1/2 taza de leche
- 1 pasta de guayaba 12 onz
- 1 taza de azúcar impalpable
- 1 pizca de sal
Instructions
- Mezclar la harina y la sal con el polvo de hornear. Añadir la mantequilla en cubos pequeños a la harina y trabajar la mantequilla con la ayuda de un tenedor. A continuación, añadir el huevo, vainilla y la leche, mezclar hasta que esté bien combinado.
- Formar bolitas, luego formar cilindros y aplanarlos formando cuadrados, coloque un pedazo de la pasta de guayaba en un extremo del cuadrado y envolver la pasta de guayaba con la masa y formar cilindros nuevamente.
- Hornear en un horno a 325 F por 18 -20 minutos hasta que estén firmes. No cocine demasiado. Sacarlos del horno y dejar enfriar sobre una rejilla, mientras aún están calientes pasarlos en el azúcar glas. Dejar enfriar a temperatura ambiente. ¡Disfrutar!
