Protein Boost Options

This is a cocktail, so the “protein” comes from what you serve with it:

  • Serve with a protein-forward appetizer: shrimp skewers, chicken satay, turkey/chicken meatballs, or a charcuterie board heavy on turkey/ham + cheeses
  • Pair with a high-protein dip: Greek yogurt ranch, whipped feta, or cottage-cheese herb dip + veggies
  • Party plate shortcut: add roasted edamame, spiced nuts, or cheese crisps next to the margaritas
  • Mocktail-friendly boost: offer a side “protein shot” snack (mini Greek yogurt cups with lime zest + cinnamon)

Bright, citrusy clementine lime margaritas made with tequila, Grand Marnier, and an easy homemade clementine syrup. A fresh party cocktail for brunch, taco night, or summer hosting.

Ingredients

  • Clementine’s simple syrup
  • ½ cup agave
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup clementine about 3
  • 8 ounces Grand Marnier liqueur
  • 8 ounces good-quality tequila
  • 4 ounces San Pellegrino Clementina sparkling beverage
  • ½ cup clementine’s simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Garnish: clementine segments and Himalayan pink salt rimmed glasses

Instructions

  • Combine the agave, water and clementine in a small saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for 10 minutes, breaking apart the clementine. Strain the syrup through a mesh strainer into a bowl and set aside. Chill until you are ready to use.
  • To a cocktail shaker, add the clementine simple syrup, lime juice, San Pellegrino Clementina sparkling beverage, Grand Marnier and tequila. Shake vigorously and then pour into salt rimmed glasses filled with ice.
  • Enjoy!

FAQ

What does clementine add to a margarita?
It gives a sweeter, softer citrus flavor than lime alone, and makes the drink taste bright without being too sharp.

Can I use mandarins or oranges instead of clementines?
Yes. Mandarins are closest. Oranges work too, but the flavor is a little less “floral.”

Do I have to make the clementine simple syrup?
It’s the signature piece, but you can shortcut with store-bought clementine/mandarin syrup or use agave + fresh clementine juice (flavor will be lighter).

How do I make this less sweet?
Use less syrup (start with ¼ cup), increase lime juice slightly, or swap San Pellegrino Clementina for plain sparkling water.

Can I make this as a pitcher cocktail?
Yes. Mix everything except the sparkling drink. Chill. Add the sparkling Clementina right before serving.

What tequila is best for this margarita?
A good blanco tequila is clean and citrus-friendly. Reposado also works if you want a warmer, oaky note.

Can I use Cointreau instead of Grand Marnier?
Yes. Cointreau is brighter and more orange-forward; Grand Marnier is richer and slightly sweeter.

How do I salt the rim without over-salting?
Run a lime wedge around half the rim only (not the whole glass) and dip lightly into salt.

Can I make it non-alcoholic?
Yes. Use a non-alcoholic tequila alternative, add extra lime + sparkling clementine drink, and sweeten to taste with the syrup.
