Welcome to The Petit Gourmet! I’m Gaila, a proud Dominican.

Step into Petit Gourmet, my cozy nook where Dominican tradition meets healthy living!

My culinary journey began in my grandmothers’ kitchens, those aromatic sanctuaries where every ingredient has a story. Since 2007, I’ve been dedicated to honoring my family’s culinary heritage. Starting with Basmati gourmet cuisine and then with Le Petit Gourmet Café, I’ve shared my beloved recipes on this blog since 2014.

Life took an unexpected turn when my husband Patrick was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This was a pivotal moment for our meals. I dove into the world of low-carb, nutrient-rich dishes that are still packed with flavor.

The pandemic, despite its challenges, ignited my culinary creativity. Our famous low-carb tortillas emerged and have become kitchen treasures across the country. This innovation birthed Petit Gourmet Kitchen, my commitment to wellness and deliciousness.

Petit Gourmet Kitchen, or PGK as I affectionately call it, is more than a business. It’s the fulfillment of a dream, blending culinary tradition with modern health. It’s my promise to a lifestyle that celebrates our native flavors in their healthiest form.

At The Petit Gourmet, I continue to share traditional recipes with a healthy twist. You’ll find carb-friendly, keto, gluten-free, and sugar-free delights. Every recipe carries a piece of my history, culture, and heart. Here, I offer you more than meals: I offer you an experience where you can savor the richness of our land while knowing you’re taking care of yourself and your loved ones. Here’s a fun fact: I’ve been a bariatric patient for 18 years, having lost over 105 pounds and learning to live with this transformation. Let’s just say, my relationship with food has always been complicated! This motivated me to get certified in holistic nutrition.

I completed my certification with AFPA in February 2023, and I’m thrilled to use this knowledge to help others improve their relationship with food.
