This homemade fondue is easy to make and you will taste a classic in your own kitchen. People that had limited access to fresh food during the winter months, therefore, began using aged cheeses and bread during this period so Cheese fondue was born as a solution.
As the fall wore on, the cheese aged, and the bread became stale, making it much harder to eat. Today we are bringing you an Easy Cheese Fondue version!
Local villagers discovered that if they melted their cheese with wine, garlic, and herbs and dipped the stale bread into the mixture, the bread would soften. (From Luxe Adventure Traveler). The fondue is a pleasant meal: the guests gather around a table and eat their pieces of bread with a long fork in the fondue pot in the center of the table. Cheese lovers, this easy fondue recipe will delight you!
Ladies, tradition says that if you drop your piece of bread into the fondue pot, you have to kiss the person next to you. Gentlemen, if you drop something in the pot, the next round of drinks is on you.
I always try to serve cornichons and pearl onions, cause people say, they will help to counterpart the richness of the fondue.
French-speaking Switzerland fondue is usually made from Gruyère cheese and/or Vacherin Fribourgeois. Only Neuchâtelois use Emmental cheese in their fondue. Cornichons and pickled pearl onions are a great way to make this dish easier to digest.
